Wolfdene Community partners with local businesses to build school Sensory Garden

Wolfdene Community has partnered with local business, Glascott Landscape and Civil, to build a much needed Sensory Garden at Lyndhurst Primary School.

The Sensory Garden, which will be located near the rear of the school, will comprise of a number of sensory experiences, designed to provide valuable recourses for a wide range of uses, from education through to recreation.

“Having a Sensory Garden has been a goal of Lyndhurst Primary School for many years, however, due to funding and other priorities, we never quite got there until Wolfdene Community came on board,” said Assistant Principal, Elaine Lesuik.

“A space such as this will be particularly beneficial for those students who are struggling to learn within the traditional school curriculum and the overall benefits for the entire school will be immeasurable,” she said.

In order to complete the project – which has an estimated value of $40,000 – Wolfdene Community called on business associate, Glascott Landscape and Civil, to complete the works.

“Glascott Landscape and Civil have really gone above and beyond to assist with this project,” said Wolfdene’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Hannah Parker.

“Not only have they dramatically discounted their labour rates, they have sourced products at either cost or no charge from other local businesses. This assistance has allowed us to design and roll out a remarkable facility which will service the primary school for many years to come”.

Construction of the Sensory Garden will coincide with the end of Term One and subsequent school holidays with an expected completion date of mid to late April.

“Being a community-based project it has been all hands on deck with plenty of opportunities for the local kids to get involved.”

“It has been fantastic to see the students and teachers alike take real ownership of the project, assisting with the initial design concepts and volunteering their services to paint, maintain and water the gardens – with a roster already in place,” said Ms Parker.

Wolfdene Community has committed to this project as part of their Community Investment Program, which includes a number of other activities and grants aimed to address a range of social issues within our communities.
